28 Oct How To Calm Stress And Anxiety
Did you know that you can directly influence your nervous system to calm down, and it only takes a matter of seconds?
Many of the individuals who come to us at Pathwaves are struggling at levels that have become unmanageable for them on their own. They are looking for answers on how to calm stress and anxiety, when everything else they have tried has failed to provide lasting relief. This is because the nervous system – through genetics, past experiences, perceptions and opinions, and the general framework of thought – has been conditioned to operate at these more troublesome levels. It requires a literal self-reprogramming of the neural pathways to effectively alleviate their suffering on a sustainable basis.
We as humans are both mind and body. How we think – the mind – affects which neural pathways activate and deactivate. And these neural pathways are part of the body. So you can see how the two are intertwined. At Pathwaves, we use neurotechnology to treat the mind and body at the same time through our NeuroEmpowerment™ protocol.
But first, we have to begin with the basics.
Techniques To Calm Stress And Anxiety
At Pathwaves, we aim to teach techniques that allow our clients to change from the inside out through their own volition, without having to rely on external influences to improve their mental state.
Out of the many techniques to calm the nervous system, these three are the first ones we teach each of our clients:
Box breathing, or triangle breathing, helps us pay attention to our breathe, and even start to enjoy it a little, thus calming the nervous system. Start by breathing in for the count of three, hold your breath for the count of three, and then breathe out for the count of three. Do this for at least three sets, focusing on your breath and the counting the whole time.
While breathing, imagine that you are in a calm and quiet place. Visualize how that place would look, sound, and feel. You may continue with the same cadence of breathing, or you may choose not to and place your focus solely on the visualization.
Relaxation of the Body
For those who struggle to use the imagination, it doesn’t mean that anything is wrong. An alternative to using visualization is to focus on relaxing the body. Remove all resistance from the muscles and sink as deeply into the chair as possible. Focus on letting go of tension from the top of the head to the toes.
The three techniques above provide the baseline for the work we do at Pathwaves to recondition the nervous system for healthier responses. Because anxiety and stress always involve an increase in energy in our bodies, these exercises give your nervous system no choice but to lower the levels of stress and anxiety you experience in that moment. And the more days you practice these techniques, the better you will get at the skill of reducing the energy your nervous system is creating, which translates to less stress and anxiety in your day to day life.
Pathwaves NeuroEmpowerment™: Basic Training
The Pathwaves Basic Training Path includes 10 visits that introduce our clients to what’s possible when you take control of your nervous system, or achieve what we call NeuroEmpowerment™.
Session 1: Hello Nerves
In the first session – called “Hello Nerves” – we teach the exact techniques outlined above in order to clear the way for the transformation to come. This gives clients a taste of what it is like to experience a calm nervous system, even if it’s just for a few moments. This primes the neural pathways for a new way of operating, which continue to be tweaked and reinforced in the sessions to come.
It is part of our mission to help the world become a love-based place, one “world” at a time. A person’s “world” is housed in their nervous system. Therefore, it stands to reason that living life from an entirely different perspective and frame of reference can truly allow each person to change their own “world.” Our system uses technology augmented practice to teach and empower our clients, allowing for unprecedented influence on how the nervous system functions.
Through the Pathwaves NeuroEmpowerment™ program, we use a proprietary form of integrative neurofeedback – what we call Neurofeedforward™ – to influence the nervous system, and recondition your responses in order to live a life that embodies love over fear. Our method has been able to effectively help more than 95% of our clients change how they feel and function, so they can live happier and healthier lives.
