06 Jul The Importance of Mental Fitness
Mental health fitness is certainly important, so why don’t we hear more about it?
According to the CDC, WHO, and NAMI, lack of mental fitness is the leading cause of disability worldwide. This issue is increasingly getting worse, costing us more than $1,000,000,000,000 (trillion) every year, and causing deaths across the globe.
Given those numbers, are you ready to talk about mental fitness now?
We’ll begin by defining both mental health and mental health fitness.
According to dictionary.com, mental health is “a state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life.”
Mental fitness describes your level of mental health. i.e. If you are mentally fit, your mental health is in good shape, and if you are not mentally fit, then you may struggle with your mental health.
The definition of mental health could be made more accurate by adding “with enough physical support to facilitate that state.”
Neurons are nerve cells that send and receive signals from the brain and body. Since our mind is in our bodies, our body needs to be considered in the definition of mental health as well. Our mind and bodies are connected, as our neurons are not limited to our brain – they send signals all throughout our nervous system, directly connected to our physical body.
Mental health and mental fitness go hand in hand, as mental fitness emphasizes the importance of routine to upkeep our mental health. Mental fitness routines vary widely, and may have different specific goals.
Mental Fitness Routines in the Modern World
Society, technology, and our daily lives have changed drastically over time, yet mankind has not really changed at all. The way we attempt to mentally and physically function has remained largely the same, except in that we have more access to technology than ever before. What we consciously interact with daily is drastically different, yet we have not changed how we handle and maintain our consciousness. It is time for us to up-level our mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
This requires understanding mental health fitness, and how to build a mental fitness program.
Mental health fitness requires a mental fitness routine in which substantial support is provided to ALL levels of our consciousness (mentally and physically). For the sake of simplicity, we categorize the levels of consciousness inside us all as unconscious, subconscious, conscious, and connections. Your personal routine may vary, depending on your level of awareness of the world around you, as well as the world that embodies you (your body).
It is important to note that all levels of awareness above controlled and enslaved by conventional wisdom (provided by our governmental bodies and school curriculums) require a mental fitness routine in order to maintain them.
As an example, The President’s Council on Fitness was established in 1956 to bring health information to our schools. Until recently, May, 17, 2022 in fact, this program has been only about physical health. Now, finally, the governing bodies are acknowledging the importance of both the body (physical fitness) and the mind (mental fitness).
In order to move forward in the development of a higher consciousness to reach and maintain the highest levels of mental health (higher levels of poise, peace, confidence, function, focus, sustainable performance, joy, happiness and/or enlightenment), it is vital to have a daily fitness routine with the intention to “work out” your neural pathways to create new healthy neural pathways, and maintain the ones you already have.
